Inspired by this weeks “praatje plaatje” 3FM DJ Coen Swijnenberg, we discovered this great album by Boy & Bear: Moonfire.

Do you like Mumford & Sons? We bet you like this album too!

How to stream Spotify wireless to your stereo?

From your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?

It is easy to stream wireless from your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad to your Apple TV or Airport. Works great! As soon as the iPod, iPad, iPhone finds the Airport / AppleTV, a new icon appears in the “play-mode” of Spotify. Click it, choose your device and listen to Spotify on your stereo. Wow!

From your PC or LapTop?

The simplest thing to do is to use an Apple AirPort Express or AppleTV. You can use the wireless (Wi-Fi) network and send music to the AirPort Express or AppleTV, which will forward it to the stereo.

The Apple products were built to function natively with the music program iTunes, but there’s a program called AirFoil ($25, free trial, Mac/Windows/Linux) which allows you to capture the sound of a program (like Spotify) and send it to an AirPortExpress or AppleTV.

Yesterday I wrote a post about syncing local files to your mobile.

Today I read a post on Pansentient League about using Dropbox to share your local music between the computers you use. Great idea bij Andy Smith (@asmitter).

Read how it works here.

Spotify has a very big music-collection, but there are some albums missing … But if you have this album locally, it’s very easy to import it in Spotify.

Doing so, you can also sync this local files to your mobile. That is a nice way to enjoy the new albums by Coldplay and Adele, using Spotify!

This are the steps summarized:

  1. Import the files to the Library
  2. Create a Playlist
  3. Connect Phone using WiFi and Sync the Playlist

If you have Spotify Premium and you want to sync your local MP3s from your computer to your mobile device, just connect your mobile to the same network as your desktop computer. Now add your MP3s to a Spotify playlist, then open Spotify on your mobile to sync them for your offline pleasure. It goes without saying, but please don’t import any music into Spotify that you don’t legally own.

Equalify

Equalify is an equalizer made for Spotify. It is the only one of its kind, there are no other equalizer addons or anything that integrates this closely with spotify. And the best part… no costs!

Search Spotify using modifiers to restrict and refine your results.

For example, to search for Madonna’s 1983 output you enter “madonna year:1983″. You can also search for a range of years, like this: “rolling stones year:1965-1972″. Other modifiers include “album”, “artist” and “genre”. These can be combined, for example: “album:love artist:cult” only finds tracks from The Cult’s “Love”. Finally, Boolean syntax can be used to exclude keywords, like this: “genre:trip-hop NOT morcheeba”.

Spotify’s most useful search modifiers is “genre”. Search for “genre:post-rock” and you’ll get more Mogwai than you can get wet after midnight. It’s also the trickiest to use. The program itself only lists 18 default genres (in the Radio section), but it supports around 800! If you don’t use the right wording, the search will return no results. For a full and current list of Spotify genres, go to Spotify Gateway.

Want to add a user? Search for spotify:user:USERNAME (for example spotify:user:vincsie)

We really don’t like it that Spotify-links differ between US and EU. It does make sharing difficult and more work to publish :(

We are trying to find out if this is a fact we have to live with, or if it’s only a start-up-issue.

In the meantime, we made a try-out to have separate US and EU links. You like it this way? Please give your feedback and tips (twitter @HotSpotify/ mail Vincent@HotSpotify.com)

EU US | Washed Out – Within and Without
EU US | John Maus – We Must Become The Pitiless Censors …
EU US | araabMUZIK – Electronic Dream

EU US | iceage – New Brigade
EU US | WU LYF – Go Tell Fire To The Mountain
EU US | Bon Iver – Bon Iver

EU US | Fucked Up – David Comes To Life
EU US | Cults – Cults
EU US | The Antlers – Burst Apart
EU US | EMA – Past Life Martyred Saints

Tip

Press Ctrl + G when listening to a multi-artist playlist. The view changes to show the album art for each track.
