HotSpotify Supports Kiva

You can find the “Top Lists” feature in Spotify as a tab, next to “What’s New”.

The often forgotten “Top Lists” feature shows you the most popular tracks everywhere on the Spotify network, by default. You can change the display to show top artists, albums and tracks. If you look in the top left corner – you can also change where Spotify gets its data. Choose “Everywhere” or a specific region where Spotify is live. Finally, choosing “For Me” shows your most frequently played tracks since the list was last updated.

Tubufy lets you paste in not just single tracks but also entire Spotify playlists and albums. Enter a Spotify URI (not the HTTP kind) then click the button to generate a YouTube playlist. Tubufy will automatically select the most relevant music video for each of the tracks, then present them as a playlist. The Tubufy page lists the songs down the left-hand which you can jump to directly or use the transport buttons to skip to the next/previous track. There’s also an option to shuffle the songs. The large-screen video player has the standard YouTube controls as well as a toggle to show thumbnails for alternative videos.

So now, for example, you can make your Youtube Playlist out of the HotSpotify Dutch Top40: Top40 nl

Via Spotify

If you have Spotify Premium and you want to sync your local MP3s from your computer to your mobile device, just connect your mobile to the same network as your desktop computer. Now add your MP3s to a Spotify playlist, then open Spotify on your mobile to sync them for your offline pleasure. It goes without saying, but please don’t import any music into Spotify that you don’t legally own.

We just discovered a very nice and easy way to get the lyrics of Spotify songs you play on your iPad.

While playing a song on Spotify, just start the free app Soundhound and let it recognise the song you play. Soundhound then looks for the lyrics and displays the lyrics if it finds them.

1) Top Lists – personalized
The often forgotten “Top Lists” feature shows you the most popular tracks everywhere on the Spotify network, by default. You can change the display to show top artists, albums and tracks. If you look in the top left corner – you can also change where Spotify gets its data. Choose “Everywhere”, the United Kingdom or another region where Spotify is live. Finally, choosing “For Me” shows your most frequently played tracks since the list was last updated.

2) Better searching
Search Spotify using modifiers to restrict and refine your results. For example, to search for Madonna’s 1983 output you enter “madonna year:1983″. You can also search for a range of years, like this: “rolling stones year:1965-1972″. Other modifiers include “album”, “artist” and “genre”. These can be combined, for example: “album:love artist:cult” only finds tracks from The Cult’s “Love”. Finally, Boolean syntax can be used to exclude keywords, like this: “genre:trip-hop NOT morcheeba”.

Spotify’s most useful search modifiers is “genre”. Search for “genre:post-rock” and you’ll get more Mogwai than you can get wet after midnight. It’s also the trickiest to use. The program itself only lists 18 default genres (in the Radio section), but it supports around 800! If you don’t use the right wording, the search will return no results. For a full and current list of Spotify genres, go to Spotify Gateway.

3) Album art
Press Ctrl + G when listening to a multi-artist playlist. The view changes to show the album art for each track.

4) Keyboard navigation
Use keyboard shortcuts to navigate faster in Spotify; tab to move through columns, use up and down arrows to select tracks or move through tracks or playlists, hit enter to play. The Spacebar toggles pause on and off. When you’re playing a tune, CTRL and right skips to the next in the list, while ALT and left or right goes back and forward through pages.

5) Privacy
By default, the new social features in Spotify make all your playlists public. Even the ones full of 80s power ballads. Prevent poor-taste embarrassment by clicking your own name in the “People” column – then click “Edit”. You toggle whether a playlist is published on or off; green for yes, grey for no. While you’re there, untick the box labeled “Automatically publish new playlists I create”. You can also right-click on a playlist in the column on the left and tick or untick “Publish” in the context sensitive menu.

Anyone with a Spotify account can now send tracks to your inbox. It’s as easy as dragging a track to a profile in the people column. What if someone you don’t know starts spamming you with Hall and Oates tunes? Easy. You block them. Right-click their name in the “From” field and choose “Block from Inbox”.

6) Filter
Press Ctrl + F when listening to a playlist to display a filter option. Start typing into the filter box to narrow down the list of songs.

7) High Bitrate
If you’re on Spotify Premium, remember to enable high bitrate for better quality audio. It’s in Edit > Preferences (or press Ctrl + P).

How to stream Spotify wireless to your stereo?

From your PC or LapTop?

The simplest thing to do is to buy an Apple AirPort Express. It’s a little wireless network router that you put next to your stereo and plug in using a regular audio cable. You can then use the wireless (Wi-Fi) network and send music to the AirPort Express which will forward it to the stereo.

The AirPort Express was built to function natively with the music program iTunes, but there’s a program called AirFoil ($25, free trial, Mac/PC/Linux) which allows you to capture the sound of a program (like Spotify) and send it to an AirPortExpress.

From your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?

The newest version of the Apple IOS 4.2 makes it possible to stream wireless from your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad to your Apple TV or Airport. HotSpotify just tested this with an iPod Touch and Airport Express connected to a stereo-system. Works great! As soon as the iPod finds the Airport, a new icon appears in the “play-mode” of Spotify. Click it, choose your Airportand listen to Spotify on your stereo. Wow!

Do you want to sing along, when you enjoy your music on Spotify?

The newest version of MiniLyrics gives you the possibility to choose Spotify as your music-player.  During installation, you will find Spotify on the third page of music-players. I just tried it out and in my opinion this really works fine.

You can also try ListDJ. ListDJ gives you also the possibility to view lyrics, in a more static way then MiniLyrics.

I prefer MiniLyrics.

HotSpotify invites you to share your Spotify music-tips, using Twitter.

Include the hashtag HotSpotify (#hotspotify) in your tweet with a link to a Spotify album, track or playlist. Your tweet will be shown in the HotSpotify Twitter Spots section in the sidebar.

Please add a “genre”-indication, to avoid disappointments ;-)

Tip: use right-mouse to open the spotify-link in a new tab or window
